UK in 2026: read this before you choose a university
- Some UK universities have restricted or paused applications from Bangladesh because the Home Office tightened its sponsor compliance rules. Universities must keep visa refusals below 5%, and refusal rates for Bangladeshi applicants have been reported at about 22% to 26%. Always confirm that your chosen university is currently accepting your application before you pay any deposit.
- Visa fee: the UK student visa application fee rose to £558 from 8 April 2026, and the student Immigration Health Surcharge is £776 for each year of your visa.
- Funds: you must show £1,529 a month for up to nine months if you study in London (£13,761), or £1,171 a month outside London (£10,539), on top of first-year tuition.
- Graduate Route: currently two years for applications made on or before 31 December 2026, reducing to 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027. PhD graduates receive three years.

How To Study In UK?
- Choose your course and university and confirm the university is recruiting from Bangladesh.
- Take an English test approved for your course: IELTS for UKVI, PTE Academic UKVI, or the university's own accepted alternative.
- Apply through UCAS for undergraduate courses or directly to the university for postgraduate courses.
- Receive your offer and satisfy any conditions, including any interview or credibility assessment.
- Accept and pay the deposit and receive your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
- Prove your funds and prepare documents for the student visa.
- Apply for the student visa online, pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and give biometrics.
UK Student Visa Requirements
Most international degree students apply for a Student visa under the points-based system. You must have a CAS from a licensed sponsor, enough money for tuition and living costs, and meet English language requirements. Applications are made online and biometrics are given at a visa application centre.
- Application fee: £558 (from 8 April 2026).
- Immigration Health Surcharge: £776 for each year of your visa.
- Funds: first-year tuition (or what remains after your deposit) plus living costs of £1,529 a month for London or £1,171 a month elsewhere, for up to nine months. Funds must be held for 28 days in an accepted bank account.

English Language Requirements For Bangladeshi Students (IELTS, PTE And MOI)
Most students prove their English with a UKVI-approved test such as IELTS for UKVI or PTE Academic UKVI. Typical scores are:
- Foundation and pathway courses: about IELTS 5.5 overall
- Bachelor's degrees: IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 overall with no component below 5.5 or 6.0
- Master's degrees: IELTS 6.5 overall, sometimes 7.0 for law, medicine and journalism
Some universities also accept a Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate from a Bangladeshi institution as evidence of English study, and some run their own English tests. Acceptance of MOI depends on the university and the Home Office rules for your course level, so check the university's list of accepted qualifications for Bangladesh before you rely on it.
UK pathway providers
Pathway providers such as INTO, Kaplan, Navitas and university international colleges offer foundation and pre-master's programmes that lead into UK degrees, often with lower entry requirements. Check that the pathway has a guaranteed progression route and that the partner university is recruiting from Bangladesh.

Many Bangladeshi families fund UK study with savings or bank loans. If you use a loan, keep sanction letters, repayment terms and proof of the source of funds. The Home Office requires clear evidence that the money is genuinely available and that it has been held for 28 days.

Scholarships include Chevening (UK government, one-year master's for future leaders), Commonwealth Scholarships (for eligible Commonwealth countries including Bangladesh), the GREAT Scholarships and many university scholarships.
